Writer's Workshop
We have just completed our personal narratives! We worked at writing about a "seed" idea, rather than a "watermelon." By doing this, we were able to zoom in to our small moment, including details and memories that would "hook" the reader! We read a book, "Nothing Ever Happens on 90th Street," as a support for us during our writing time. The book reminded us to add details, and spice to our writing! "Find the poetry in your pudding!" was advice from one of the characters in the book by Roni Schotter. It was so much fun to read about all of your memories!
Math Multiplication facts need to be memorized and should be studied for a few minutes each night as a part of the regular homework routine. It is so important that homework is completed each night, as any assignment given will serve as an important review of the topics covered in class.
** If you are unsure of any of your multiplication facts, make sure you study them for a few minutes each day! I know that all of the more difficult concepts we cover in 4th grade are easier and make more sense if you know ALL of your multiplication facts! I promise! We are just finishing up Topic 2, which was a unit on patterning. Some of the patterns dealt with numbers, and others with pictures. Students practiced looking at patterns, determining the rule for the given pattern and then testing it out to make sure that it worked! We will take some time at the end of the quarter to review all of the concepts we have covered so far! It is really amazing to look at all of the math you have already learned in 4th grade! |
Reading/Reader's Workshop
We have completed our fiction unit for now, and have moved on to non-fiction. We will be doing lots of cross-curricular reading, and this will involve the students in using and identifying text features within reading selections. Students will learn how and why given text features can enhance understanding and enjoyment of reading selections.. Text features within non-fiction reading selections can help to make information more clear, providing the reader with a better understanding of what is being presented.
I enjoyed reading your sandwich book reports and I am looking forward to seeing your completed non-fiction projects. These will be assigned soon! Social StudiesScience |
